Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday called on eligible voters in the state to take part in the Special Intensive Revision process, saying it was necessary to protect their right to vote and to continue availing benefits under government welfare schemes. In a video message to the public, Mann said the exercise was aimed at strengthening democracy at the grassroots level and assured people of full support and cooperation during the process. Mann also linked participation in the process to the state government’s welfare measures, including the Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana, under which women are to receive Rs 1,000 per month, with an additional Rs 500 for women from the Scheduled Castes.
Mann said anyone facing difficulty while filling out the SIR form should contact local volunteers of the Aam Aadmi Party, who, he said, would extend every possible assistance. “It is very important for every eligible voter to fill out the SIR form so that your name is included in the new electoral roll. If your name does not appear in the voter list, you will not be able to exercise your democratic right to vote. I urge every Punjabi to complete this process on time and protect this invaluable right,” he said. The Chief Minister appealed to people across Punjab to participate in the exercise enthusiastically to ensure that “genuine” votes remain on the electoral rolls.
Referring to the launch of the Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana, he said the state government had fulfilled another major promise made to the people. Mann said women beneficiaries above the age of 18 had started receiving notifications on their mobile phones about the financial assistance being credited directly to their bank accounts. He said every woman in Punjab was receiving Rs 1,000 per month, while women from the Scheduled Caste category were receiving Rs 1,500 per month. Nearly 97 per cent of women in Punjab were expected to benefit from the initiative, for which the state government had made a budgetary provision of Rs 9,300 crore, he said.
He said every eligible voter must participate in the SIR process so that their genuine vote is not deleted from the electoral rolls and they can continue receiving the benefits of the Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana and other social welfare initiatives of the Punjab government. Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra has said the SIR exercise is progressing smoothly across the state. Ends
