A 35-year-old businessman was arrested by the Mailardevpally police on Wednesday for illegally storing and selling government-supplied Public Distribution System (PDS) ration rice and wheat from a room in the Housing Board Colony.
The police raided the premises on July 8 and found several bags containing ration rice and wheat. The man present at the location, identified as Mir Ahmed Ali, a resident of MCH Colony in NS Kunta, Jahanuma, Falaknuma, was taken into custody.
During questioning, the accused confessed to purchasing government ration rice and wheat from residents in various colonies at low prices and reselling them at higher rates for profit, according to the police. The police seized four quintals of ration rice and four quintals of wheat from his possession.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
