The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) successfully conducted a flight test of the Pinaka long range guided rocket from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, validating its user-defined minimum strike range of 60 km. The rocket executed all planned in-flight manoeuvres and hit the designated target with high precision, following the predicted trajectory, according to the Union Ministry of Defence.
Range instrumentation deployed during the trial tracked the rocket throughout its flight. Designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, the Pinaka long-range guided rocket has been developed with support from the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, and the Research Centre Imarat. The trial was coordinated by the Integrated Test Range and the Chandipur-based Proof and Experimental Establishment laboratory of the DRDO.
The rocket was launched from an in-service Pinaka launcher, demonstrating the system’s ability to fire different variants of the Pinaka rocket family with varying ranges from the same launcher, enhancing operational flexibility. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, the Indian Army, and industry partners on the successful trial, describing it as a major milestone in India’s indigenous capability to design and develop long-range guided rockets.
Defence Secretary and DRDO chairperson Rajesh Kumar Singh, who closely monitored the trial, also congratulated the teams involved in the successful test.
