The Kozhikode City police on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) destroyed a massive haul of narcotics seized during various anti-drug operations after completing all mandatory legal formalities. The drugs were disposed of at the district police headquarters under the direct supervision of District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) A.P. Shoukathali.
Police sources said the contraband was confiscated in connection with 52 separate cases registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the city. The narcotics were incinerated, adhering strictly to prescribed environmental and safety protocols, they added. The enforcement squad destroyed a total of 52.178 kg of ganja.
Additionally, 3.285 kg of MDMA was destroyed. The authorities also disposed of 997 grams of hashish oil that had been seized from local traffickers, alongside 79.67 grams of heroin. Shoukathali said enforcement measures against the smuggling, distribution, and sale of synthetic and conventional drugs would be tightened further in the days to come.
He added that special drives would be initiated along with the continuation of extensive awareness campaigns to protect youth from substance abuse.
