The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday organised a workshop for its official spokespersons and media panellists in Vijayawada, where Andhra Pradesh BJP president P.V.N. Madhav outlined the party’s expansion plans and accused certain groups of attempting to create religious and social divisions. Addressing the workshop, Mr. Madhav alleged that “anti-national forces” were operating in the State and accused some groups, under the guise of Dalit activism, of making derogatory remarks against Hindu deities and attempting to incite communal tensions.
He also alleged that attempts were being made to carry out forced religious conversions and said freedom of speech should not be misused to spread hatred or justify terrorism. While urging people to protect their own faith, he called for equal respect for all religions. Referring to development initiatives, Mr. Madhav said the “double-engine government” led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was accelerating infrastructure development and economic growth in Andhra Pradesh. He said major projects, including Green Corridors, economic corridors, expanded solar power generation, a Google data centre, the Kadapa steel plant, Machilipatnam Port and Amaravati, were progressing.
He also said the Polavaram project would be completed before the next elections and claimed that Andhra Pradesh had attracted investments worth ₹23 lakh crore over the past two years. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav alleged that opposition parties were attempting to exploit the positive atmosphere in the State by promoting caste and religious divisions. He said those spreading communal hatred should face legal action and alleged that provocative content was being circulated from neighbouring States. Yadav also criticised YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy over his recent political remarks, questioned his use of the term “Mavigan”, and accused the previous government of failing to ensure balanced regional development.
He said the NDA would soon finalise its strategy, seat-sharing arrangements and candidates for the forthcoming local body elections.
