A Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) became operational at the Thavanur Sub Post Office in the district on Wednesday (July 8, 2026). The new facility comes under the Regional Passport Office, Kozhikode, and is the third POPSK under its jurisdiction. Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi inaugurated the centre.
M.P. Abdussamad Samadani, MP, presided over the function. The Ministry of External Affairs described the launch as a milestone, stating that at least one Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or POPSK has now been established in every Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala. The Thavanur POPSK is expected to improve access to passport services for residents of the Ponnani Lok Sabha constituency and neighbouring areas by reducing travel distance and waiting time.
The centre will initially process up to 50 passport applications a day, with plans to increase the capacity to 100 applicants daily in the coming
months. Applicants can book appointments for the Thavanur POPSK through the official Passport Seva website, www.passportindia.gov.in, or via the Passport Seva mobile app.
