Around 200 women Civil Defence volunteers participated in the third day of the second batch of a five-day Civil Defence Volunteers Training Programme organised by the Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence Department at Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University in Koti here on Wednesday. The programme is aimed at strengthening the capabilities of Civil Defence volunteers to respond effectively to disasters, emergencies and other public safety incidents across Telangana.
In addition to the volunteers, 20 members of the university’s management, faculty and staff attended the training programme. Participants received both theoretical and practical training in disaster preparedness, emergency response, fire safety, first aid, rescue techniques, evacuation procedures and community awareness to improve their ability to support the administration during emergencies. The day’s technical sessions covered LPG cylinder leak management and fire safety measures, the operation of portable fire extinguishers, high-rise firefighting techniques, including a demonstration of the Turn Table Ladder (TTL) hydraulic platform vehicle, as well as a mock evacuation exercise and a live fire demonstration.
Officials said the practical sessions and demonstrations were aimed at enhancing the volunteers’ understanding of emergency response mechanisms and disaster management techniques through hands-on experience. The five-day training programme, which concludes on July 10, includes classroom sessions, live demonstrations, mock drills and practical exercises to develop a trained
Civil Defence volunteer force capable of assisting in disaster management and public safety initiatives across the State. The programme was attended by university Vice-Chancellor Surya Dhananjay, along with Deepika from the Department of Physical Education and senior officers of the Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence Department.
