The Mysuru district police have cracked a recent highway dacoity in which two Kerala-based businessmen were robbed of ₹85 lakh on the Mysuru-Nanjangud highway. Briefing reporters about the cases solved by the Mysuru district police during the last ten days, Superintendent of Mysuru district police Mallikarjun Baladandi said the two victims Anshul Rahman and Maqsood Hussain, both from Kerala, were returning from Mysuru to their native places in a car on July 1 when the dacoity took place.
After finishing their work related to gold trading, the duo was carrying ₹85 lakh in their car on their return journey. However, when they were near Sindhuvallipura in Nanjangud rural police station limits, their vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle. Soon, two more vehicles came and blocked the path of their car, forcing them to alight. Immediately, the occupants of the three cars pushed the victims aside and drove their car along with the cash in the vehicle.
A complaint was lodged in Nanjangud Rural police station and investigation was taken up. Two special teams were constituted to investigate the case from multiple angles. So far, seven persons have been arrested, while three more accused are yet to be traced. The police have recovered ₹11 lakh in cash from the arrested persons. The seven accused, who were friends, had split into two groups to execute the robbery. Three vehicles used in the crime have also been seized, police said.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police said the district police had cracked 30 cases during the last ten days including robbery, house burglary and vehicle thefts. A total of 35 accused had been arrested while the stolen property, which has been recovered is worth ₹1.55 crore. The recovered stolen property will be returned to the owners in the coming days, Mr. Baladandi said.
