Kurnool district police on Wednesday handed over 679 recovered mobile phones worth ₹1.36 crore to their owners during the fifth ‘Mobile Recovery Mela’ organised at the district police office here. Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil said the devices were traced and recovered by the district cyber lab and police teams from various States, including Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka.
The SP said the district police had recovered and returned 3,081 lost and stolen mobile phones worth about ₹6.2 crore through five recovery drives conducted so far. Vikrant Patil appealed to the public to immediately report missing mobile phones by submitting their handset’s IMEI details through the Kurnool police website, besides lodging complaints at the nearest police station or on the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.
He clarified that the recovery service is provided completely free of charge. The SP said that smartphones store sensitive personal, financial, and business information, making prompt reporting
essential to prevent misuse by criminals. Later, the owners who received their mobile phones arranged a felicitation programme for the police personnel involved in the recovery operation.
