An India Today report details the ongoing investigation into alleged corruption and theft of funds associated with the Ayodhya Ram Temple. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is scrutinizing expenditures totalling 124 crore rupees, including 113 crore rupees spent on the Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha and 10 crore rupees on the flag hoisting ceremony. Champat Rai, the former general secretary of the trust, is facing scrutiny for the alleged theft that occurred under his watch.
In a statement to the SIT accessed by India Today, Rai defended himself, blaming bank officials for lapses and claiming that housekeeping staff were deployed to count cash. He also maintained that trustee Anil Mishra was fully aware of the protocols. Meanwhile, three accused individuals, Lavesh Mishra, Anubhav Mishra, and Karunesh Pandey, have been remanded to police custody. The political battle has intensified, with opposition leaders demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and the resignations of the prime minister, home minister, and Uttar Pradesh chief minister.
