Prabhas Mondal, the prime accused in the tragic rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur, Bengal, has been shot dead in a police encounter. The incident occurred around 12:45 AM when police took him to the desolate crime scene for reconstruction. According to the police, Mondal attempted to flee by snatching a policeman's firearm and opening fire, leading to retaliatory firing that resulted in his death.
He was declared brought dead at a Baruipur hospital. The minor's body was previously recovered on July 4, stuffed inside a sack in a pond. Following the encounter, Mondal's mother refused to accept his body, stating he received what he deserved. The incident has triggered a massive political slugfest. The BJP praised the action, while the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC camp questioned the encounter's authenticity.
TMC representatives alleged that the accused was a BJP worker who possessed internal party secrets and was systematically silenced to prevent him from exposing them.
