In an exclusive interview with India Today from Tehran, Deputy Mayor Hamid Reza Gholamzadeh discussed the aftermath of the Supreme Leader's assassination and the ongoing military tensions with the United States. Gholamzadeh claimed that between twelve to fifteen million people participated in the funeral processions across Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad. Addressing the recent forty-day conflict, he stated that US forces used fighter jets and missiles, and they "tried to steal the rich uranium from Iran" but ultimately failed in their objectives.
He detailed the stalled negotiations, noting that the United States is attempting to circumvent Iranian regulations in the Strait of Hormuz and restrict the release of frozen assets. Gholamzadeh maintained that Iran prefers diplomacy but remains fully prepared for continued military action if necessary. Dismissing American threats, he asserted, "There is no defeat for Iran, and there is no win for the United States here," adding that even the threat of a nuclear bomb would not deter the Iranian people from defending their nation.
