Mavigun more accessible, cost-effective than Amaravati, says Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) senior leader and former Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy has said the proposed ‘Mavigun’ capital region has the people’s consent and support. Mavigun, a three-city region comprising Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur, was proposed by former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Speaking to the media after paying tributes to former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on his birth anniversary here on Wednesday (July 8, 2026), he called Mavigun a well developed, more accessible and cost-effective capital region compared to Amaravati, and suggested the government give it a serious thought.
He said the selection of Mavigun would ensure equitable distribution of the fruits of development even to the backward pockets of Krishna and Guntur districts. “The senior leaders of YSRCP are extremely unhappy over the manner in which the government is unilaterally moving ahead with Amaravati to suit its interests. We stand with the public on this issue, as the people’s aspirations are certainly inclined towards Mavigun,” he said. Referring to the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as a ‘tall leader’ who had risen above regional boundaries and partisan considerations, the Punganur MLA cited Arogyasri, fee reimbursement and Jalayagnam as having improved the lives of thousands of people in the undivided Andhra Pradesh.
Support to Raavan Ramachandra Reddy said the YSR Congress would continue to support the controversial YouTuber Prashna Raavan, saying it would continue to be the voice of all those who question the government. “We (the party) don’t have anything in common with him. How can the government blame us if Raavan questions Pawan Kalyan. However, we will support anyone who questions the government for abusing its power,” he said. He criticised the government for blaming the YSRCP on the Gade Saikrishna issue.
“We questioned the government when a person died in the lockup and they were not even in a position to trace his ashes. And then, they blame us for supporting a criminal,” he said.
