Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder and Chidambaram MP Thol. Thirumavalavan on Tuesday cast doubt over the future of an alliance with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) by stating that “no decision has been reached on the matter so far”. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Thirumavalavan said “merely taking part in the Cabinet does not mean that the VCK had joined the alliance (led by TVK)”.
“Since the VCK’s letter of support was needed to form the government, we extended support from the outside. Only after 10 days, we decided to take part in the Cabinet. When mediapersons asked me if we were still a part of the DMK alliance, I said we still consider ourselves as part of the DMK alliance, and there has been no decision taken regarding an alliance led by the TVK,” he said.
Thirumavalavan said: “On July 1, the Chief Minister spoke to the parties that extended support, but no final decision was taken. It means that the
alliance led by TVK has not yet been formed.” He added that, “When the DMK agreed to induct an office-bearer from the VCK, we were shocked.”
