At least three people have died following a major landslide in Wayanad, where rescue operations are currently underway. The Chief Minister is scheduled to visit the landslide site to assess the situation. According to official statements, the disaster was caused after a contractor failed to comply with directives issued on June 20 by the District Collector, the Public Works Department Minister, and the State Disaster Management Authority.
The contractor had been repeatedly instructed to remove accumulated soil from the area, which eventually slid down. Authorities clarified that the tragedy was not caused by a failure in weather alerts but by the failure to clear the soil.
