Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday, the AAP supremo said that the government allegedly pressured major automobile manufacturers into providing false assurances to consumers, claiming that the 20 per cent ethanol-blended fuel would cause zero damage to older, non-compliant vehicles. According to the AAP chief, the government summoned six leading automobile companies to hold press briefings aimed at pacifying public opposition. While three manufacturers reportedly refused to comply with the directive, others succumbed to administrative pressure, publicly stating that E20 petrol would run safely in older legacy models designed strictly for unblended or minimally blended fuel.

The opposition leader strongly contested these claims, citing the manufacturers’ own official vehicle owner’s manuals, which explicitly contractually restrict ethanol usage to a maximum threshold of 10 per cent and actively advise drivers to revert to pure petrol if drivability issues emerge. The AAP leader announced an aggressive roadmap to hold both the state and the automotive sector legally and financially accountable for the policy’s fallout. Kejriwal stated that formal communications would be dispatched to all operating car and two-wheeler manufacturers demanding a written guarantee on whether they will compensate vehicle owners for the documented drop in fuel efficiency or the long-term corrosion of internal engine components. Furthermore, the AAP Convenor confirmed he will write directly to the Prime Minister next week to demand legislative clarity on a critical question: whether the central exchequer or the private manufacturers will bear the financial burden of compensation when engines across the country begin to fail. The opposition leader argued that forcing this transition on ordinary citizens without establishing a legal liability framework is an unfair economic burden on the public.
