Maharashtra minister Shambhuraj Desai has warned of strict action against hospitals run by charitable trusts if they do not follow the prescribed rules. The state government will carry out a special inspection drive through district-level committees to check whether these hospitals are meeting requirements such as displaying dashboards, implementing government health schemes and following other mandatory conditions. Replying to a question in the legislative council on Tuesday, Desai said hospitals found violating the norms during these checks would face stringent action.

He also said the government is closely watching complaints that some patients are being charged excessively, and may appoint special public prosecutors if needed to deal with such cases. Read Full Story During the discussion, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal said it is mandatory for charitable trust hospitals to display dashboards with information on free treatment facilities. She said many hospitals have still not complied with this rule. Fresh instructions have been issued to such hospitals, and compliance will be monitored through appointed 'Arogya Doot' or health volunteers.

Desai, a Shiv Sena leader who also holds the tourism and mining portfolios, said district-level committees have been set up across Maharashtra to monitor these hospitals. He said these committees must hold regular meetings and ensure that hospitals are following all applicable rules. Instructions will also be issued to Additional District Collectors, who serve as member secretaries of these committees, to immediately begin a special inspection drive. The minister said all eligible charitable trust hospitals must effectively implement government health schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

He said special instructions would be issued to district-level committees and member secretaries to ensure this is done.
