Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has announced two citizen-centric initiatives aimed at improving waste management and promoting environmentally sustainable disposal practices across its jurisdiction. The programmes — a weekly ‘Bulky Household Waste Collection Drive’ and a ‘Divine Waste Collection Drive’ — will be rolled out with QR codes for registration and participation guidelines to be released on Wednesday. Under the Bulky Household Waste Collection Drive, dedicated collection vehicles will operate every Saturday across all CMC circles to collect large household items that cannot be disposed of through regular waste collection.
The drive will cover old furniture, mattresses, cots, cupboards, wooden furniture and other bulky household waste. The initiative is intended to discourage the dumping of bulky waste on roadsides, open spaces and nalas, which often leads to pollution, drainage blockages and public health concerns. In a separate initiative, the CMC will introduce the Divine Waste Collection Drive to facilitate the collection and environmentally responsible disposal of flowers, garlands, coconuts and other devotional offerings from temples.
The programme will establish designated collection points at identified temples, where devotees can deposit religious offerings. Participating temples will be identified and registered, following which awareness campaigns will be conducted to encourage public participation.
Collected offerings will be temporarily stored before undergoing the customary Udvasana Puja (final ritual). Trained volunteers will then dismantle and segregate the materials, which will subsequently be handed over to authorised recyclers for processing.
