Calcutta Khilafat Committee had started this move at Red Road from 1978, prior to that Namaz was read at the Sahid Minar Area. Calcutta Khilafat Committee was a branch of Khilafat movement in Kolkata, where the freedom fighter and maulanas would come and read Namaz to muslim men at Sahid Minar.
Given to the new directive of the government the location changes to Brigade Parade Ground where months ago Lokho Konthe Gita Path was also celebrated before the BJP took it's shape in Bengal. At the time this ground break the religious agenda of the opposition, the joint secretary of the committee Malik Ishaque tells TN that they well accept the directive of the government as per the 1950's act.
