Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) has announced its Golden Jubilee celebrations, marking five decades of academic excellence, research, and institutional growth. As part of the celebrations, the university will felicitate its former administrators at a function on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) at the Dr. H.H. Deichmann Auditorium. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday (July 7), Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kancherla Gangadhara Rao said the university, established as the Andhra University Postgraduate Centre at Nallapadu in 1970, became an independent institution on September 11, 1976.
Inaugurated by the then President of India, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, the university has grown into a premier institution serving the region. The Vice-Chancellor said ANU has expanded to include six constituent colleges—Arts, Science, Pharmacy, Architecture, Physical Education and Engineering—and several specialised research centres, including those dedicated to Women's Studies, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Gandhian Studies. He noted that the university secured an A+ grade with a CGPA of 3.6 in the 2024 NAAC accreditation under the Tier-II category and is now seeking Board of Accreditation recognition for its Engineering College.
Gangadhara Rao announced that new research centres would be established during the 2026-27 academic year through collaborations with the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Central Leather Research Institute and the Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management. Rector Prof. Ramineni Sivaram Prasad said the university is implementing research projects funded by agencies such as the UGC, CSIR, DBT, ICSSR and ISRO, besides conducting skill development programmes with the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation.
He said the university would install a special Golden Jubilee logo at its main entrance and had applied for a commemorative postage stamp and coin. The main Golden Jubilee celebrations are scheduled for September 11, during which distinguished former officials, faculty members, and alumni will be honoured at the commemorative events.
