The Mandya district police have arrested three persons for allegedly waylaying a motorist and assaulting him on the busy Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway following a minor accident near Srirangapatna. According to the police, the victim, a Bengaluru resident, was returning home with his family from Mysuru on Sunday night when his car was involved in a minor grazing collision with another vehicle near Srirangapatna.
Although the drivers of the two vehicles, both headed towards Bengaluru, reportedly settled the matter on the spot and resumed their journey, the occupants of the other vehicle later realised that the damage to their car was more extensive than they had initially believed. The accused allegedly signalled the victim to stop, but he is said to have continued driving.
They then pursued him in two cars, intercepted his vehicle near Maddur, and allegedly assaulted him in the presence of his family members, including a minor child. The incident was captured on the dashboard camera of a car travelling behind the victim’s vehicle. Mandya Superintendent of Police V.J. Shobharani said the police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the assault and provided first aid to the victim.
Three Bengaluru residents have been arrested in connection with the incident, while efforts are on to trace and apprehend three to four other suspects, she added.
