N. Seshadrinathan took charge as the State Election Commissioner (SEC) of Kerala on Tuesday. Mr. Seshadrinathan, who had retired as the Principal Sessions Judge of Lakshadweep, has been serving as the judge of the Family Court, Irinjalakuda.
He has also served as a judge at the CBI Court Ernakulam, State Cooperative Tribunal and the Ernakulam MACT Court. Controversy surrounded his appointment to the post as some Congress leaders alleged that he had links with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and hence should not have been considered for the post.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary P.M. Niyas had petitioned Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to examine his political positions and relations in the past 15
years. The proposal of the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government to make Law Secretary K.G. Sanal Kumar the SEC was not accepted by the Governor.
