Telangana government is preparing a comprehensive roadmap to unlock the State’s tourism potential, with focus on developing destinations, creating new tourism experiences, strengthening visitor infrastructure, attracting investment and improving marketing. During a review meeting on Tuesday, Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao directed officials to prepare an implementable plan to transform Telangana’s heritage, forests, wildlife, rivers, reservoirs and cultural assets into attractive tourism destinations through systematic planning, quality infrastructure and professional destination management.
The Minister also instructed officials to identify gaps in road connectivity, accommodation, hygiene, sanitation, tourist amenities and recreational facilities. Among the proposals reviewed was a ‘Tourism Carnival’ to showcase Telangana’s tourist destinations, cuisine, culture, heritage, arts and entertainment. Mr. Rao called for large-scale planning and extensive promotion to develop the event into a major attraction for domestic and international tourists. The meeting also discussed proposals to introduce several new tourism experiences in Hyderabad, including city tour buses, a Baoli Festival, heritage walks, night bazaars, sound and light shows and a vintage cars museum.
Heritage walks covering Koti, Charminar and Laad Bazaar were proposed to highlight the city’s history, architecture, cuisine and culture while promoting evening and night-time tourism. The Minister also urged officials on developing the Amrabad and Kawal Tiger Reserves by studying successful wildlife and eco-tourism models. He also asked that the tourism potential of Amrabad, including Chenchu culture, Kakatiya-era temples, local festivals and nature-based experiences, be developed as part of a dedicated eco-tourism circuit.
Rao also sought a development plan for nearly 1,600 acres at Somasila, proposing tourism infrastructure, accommodation, waterfront attractions, wedding destinations, recreational facilities and investment opportunities while ensuring sustainable development and protecting government interests.
