The BJP on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) announced its candidate for Bankipur Assembly byelection in Bihar, fielding Abhishek Kumar from the seat. The Bankipur Assembly byelection will be held on July 30 and the votes polled will be counted on August 3.
The vacancy arose following the resignation of BJP national president Nitin Nabin as an MLA from the seat in Bihar. Nabin was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member. Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor is contesting from the Bankipur Assembly seat that had elected Mr. Nabin five times on the trot. The Rashtriya Janata Dal
(RJD) on Monday (July 6, 2026) fielded Rekha Gupta as its candidate from the seat, bringing to an end the speculation of Mahagathbandhan offering support to Mr. Kishor.
