The move marks one of Chief Minister Vijay’s latest measures to reform the functioning of state-run liquor shops. The Tamil Nadu government said the pay revision is aimed at curbing the widespread practice of TASMAC staff allegedly collecting an extra Rs 10 per bottle from customers, a complaint that has long been associated with liquor outlets. First Revision In 2 Decades Explaining the move, Tamil Nadu Minister for Prohibition and Excise K Vignesh said the salary hike is intended to remove the incentive for employees to overcharge customers and strengthen accountability across TASMAC shops, India Today reported.
The government believes improved wages will help reduce corrupt practices while enhancing employee welfare. The minister also noted that TASMAC employees had not received a salary revision in the past 20 years.
