The government clarified that it is targeting a 25 percent ethanol blend in petrol instead of a 30 percent mix. However, petrol and diesel prices have not decreased despite the blending process. Oil marketing companies state that 80 percent of fuel still consists of crude oil purchased at high rates, especially during the West Asia crisis.
These high-priced reserves are expected to keep fuel prices elevated for about three months until cheaper crude is traded. Furthermore, because short-term and long-term trading metrics of these oil marketing companies remain confidential, it is difficult to determine when any savings from the ethanol blend will be passed on to consumers.
