The film Satluj, originally titled Punjab 95, has been taken down from the OTT platform Zee5 within forty-eight hours of its premiere. The movie was initially submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification in twenty twenty-two, where the board proposed one hundred and twenty-seven cuts. Disagreeing with the extensive cuts, the makers chose to release the movie on an OTT platform, which operates under the Information Technology Rules of twenty twenty-one and bypasses CBFC certification.
Following its release, government authorities directed the platform to remove the film. Government sources attribute the removal to national security concerns and the upcoming Punjab elections, noting the content could affect sentiments. The film will now be reviewed by a government panel to determine if further deletions are required before allowing another release. The makers argue they have faced a four-year delay without clear explanations from authorities.
