An investigation into the alleged theft of donations at the Ayodhya temple has revealed massive institutional failures and a severe lack of supervision. A Special Investigation Team report highlights significant security lapses, including the absence of frisking at entry and exit points, unenforced employee dress codes, and the failure to implement biometric attendance. According to the findings, there was no formal record of cash donations, and closed-circuit television backups were maintained for only forty-five days, capturing numerous instances of theft.
The probe indicates that unauthorized individuals gained access to donation boxes, raising questions about nepotism in appointments and relaxed banking protocols. The temple trust has appointed an interim general secretary and formed a panel to select a new chief executive officer to ensure merit-based appointments moving forward. The political fallout continues as state leadership heavily criticizes opposition parties, accusing them of hypocrisy regarding the temple's legacy and the ongoing investigation.
