Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Indonesia (Photo: PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asserted that India believes in prosperity rather than expansionism, describing development and cooperation as the cornerstone of New Delhi’s foreign policy while addressing the Indonesian Parliament during his three-day official visit to the Southeast Asian nation. Delivering a wide-ranging address, the Prime Minister underscored the shared civilisational, democratic and maritime ties between India and Indonesia, saying the two countries have built a friendship that continues to grow stronger with time. “India doesn’t believe in expansionism, but in prosperity. We believe in together with all, development for all," PM Modi said, reiterating India’s vision of inclusive growth and cooperation. The Prime Minister also reflected on the warm reception he received during his visit, thanking the people and the government of Indonesia for their hospitality.
“This morning, people of Indonesia showed their love for me, welcomed me, I can never forget it," PM Modi said. Calling the visit one of the most memorable experiences of his life, he added, “Today is one of the most memorable days of my life. The way the Indonesian government and children welcomed me, it was an honour." Highlighting the historical bonds between the two nations, PM Modi said India and Indonesia are connected by centuries of shared history and cultural exchanges. The Prime Minister also used a symbolic phrase to describe the bilateral relationship, stating, “There can be no copyright on our friendship," drawing applause from members of the Indonesian Parliament. Emphasising the strategic importance of maritime cooperation, PM Modi noted that the sea has historically connected the two countries rather than separated them. “For India and Indonesia, the sea has never represented distance. It has always been a bridge between our nations and remains central to our shared future," he said. Earlier today, Prime Minister Modi held delegation-level talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, during which the two leaders agreed to deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, including democracy, security, technology, education and culture.
