The Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence Department on Monday (July 6, 2026) launched Civil Defence Volunteer Training Programmes at two universities to build a trained volunteer force capable of assisting during emergencies and disasters. The volunteers will receive both theoretical and practical training in rescue operations, firefighting, first aid, crowd management, disaster preparedness, community awareness and relief distribution.
They will work alongside the Fire Services Department, Police, the Disaster Response Force and other departments during emergencies. A five-day training programme was inaugurated at Malla Reddy Deemed to be University in Dulapally, where 400 volunteers will be trained in various aspects of disaster response and emergency management. The programme was inaugurated by vice-chancellor P. Ravinder Reddy in the presence of officials from the Fire Department.
At the same time, the second batch of the five-day training programme commenced at Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University in Koti. The inaugural session was attended by 200 Civil Defence Volunteers and 50 members of the university’s management, faculty and staff. Director General of Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence, Vikram Singh Mann said the initiative would strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response across the State.
He said trained volunteers would be able to assist line departments during floods, major fire accidents and other disasters before the arrival of emergency services. The Director General also directed district authorities to maintain updated databases of trained Civil Defence Volunteers to facilitate their deployment during emergencies.
