The Hill Palace police in Ernakulam has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against three persons, including Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) vice president Lakshmipriya and a woman sub inspector, on a petition filed by actor Ansiba Hassan, as directed by the Tripunithura Judicial First Class Magistrate Court last week. Hassan’s legal team, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the way the case has been framed, alleging obfuscation of facts to shield the accused. The team had approached the court seeking a directive to the police to investigate a petition filed by her, which included allegations of forgery and illegal detention. On Monday (July 6, 2026), the police registered a case against three persons — Ms. Lakshmipriya, her husband Jayesh, and Reshma, a sub inspector attached to the Tripunithura women’s cell. The FIR invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 198 (public servant disobeying law with intent to cause injury), 199(a) (knowingly disobeying directions of law), 201 (public servant framing an incorrect document with intent to cause injury), 217(b) (false information with intent to cause a public servant to misuse lawful power to the injury of another person), 336 (forgery), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 61 (criminal conspiracy); along with Section 116(b) of the Kerala Police Act (illegal seizure, detention, search, or arrest causing annoyance without reasonable cause).
According to the FIR, Ms. Hassan was summoned to the Tripunithura women’s cell on January 30, 2026, following a petition filed by Ms. Lakshmipriya alleging that her family life was affected after her husband saw a WhatsApp message Ms. Hassan had sent her on December 10, 2025. Ms. Hassan was made to wait for 30 minutes at the station before being interrogated for nearly an hour about the complaint. She was allegedly threatened by Ms. Reshma with a criminal case. Ms. Lakshmipriya, who came to the station, also questioned Ms. Hassan in the presence of the sub inspector, the FIR stated. Lakshmipriya reportedly called her husband and insisted that Ms. Hassan apologise to him. Ms. Hassan was then compelled by Ms. Reshma to sign a document stating that the issue had been amicably settled with the other two.
Later, the accused allegedly prepared and used documents against Ms. Hassan’s interests, seriously tarnishing the reputation of the actor, who is also a popular artiste in the Tamil film industry, the FIR further said. “Critical points in our petition were deliberately overlooked by the police to protect the accused and weaken the case, which we will challenge in court. That a fake complaint was lodged against Ms. Hassan and that changes were made in the statement signed by her without her knowledge, amounting to forgery and a serious offence, were purposefully omitted from the FIR content,” alleged Firdouz Ammanath, Ms. Hassan’s lawyer. The alleged fake police complaint by Ms. Lakshmipriya against Ms. Hassan had triggered a chain of events leading to serious infighting within AMMA. Reportedly, AMMA president Shwetha Menon overlooked the incident when Ms. Hassan raised it, and this was followed by alleged communal accusations, including the invocation of “Jihadi” against Ms. Hassan.
