What was initially reported as the accidental death of an 11-month-old girl after she allegedly fell from a bed has turned into a murder case in Bengaluru, with the probe now focusing on the child's father, who is accused of throwing her to the ground during a domestic quarrel. The case, which was first registered as an Unnatural Death Report (UDR), took a dramatic turn after the post-mortem report revealed multiple internal injuries that investigators said were inconsistent with a fall from a two-foot-high bed. Read Full Story According to Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saidulu Advaith, the incident occurred within the limits of Avalahalli Police Station in Bengaluru. Police were initially informed that the 11-month-old baby had fallen from a bed and sustained injuries.
She was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. After the hospital informed police, a medico-legal case (MLC) was registered. The baby's father then lodged a complaint claiming the child had died after falling from the bed, following which police registered a UDR and began an investigation. However, the probe took a different direction after police received the detailed post-mortem report. "The post-mortem report stated that the cause of death was multiple internal injuries, including fractures of the ribs and other bones, internal haemorrhage, shock and respiratory system failure. It specifically pointed to severe internal injuries," DCP Advaith said. Police said the medical findings raised suspicion, prompting a detailed inquiry. According to the investigation, the child had suffered multiple external injuries on the face, chest, legs and near the private parts.
Investigators also concluded that a fall from a bed approximately two feet high could not have caused such extensive injuries. Based on the post-mortem findings, spot inspection and witness statements, the investigating officer filed a complaint, following which police registered an FIR for murder. During the investigation, police allegedly found that the infant's parents had been quarrelling over a domestic issue on the day of the incident. The baby was between them and crying during the altercation. "Our investigation revealed that during the quarrel, the father allegedly picked up the child and threw her down from a height. Because of that act, the child sustained multiple injuries, including abrasions on the skin and severe internal injuries, which were confirmed in the post-mortem report," the DCP said.
