He also dismembered her body and dumped them at different locations. Hemal Khakharia alias Dilip (42) belonged to Gujarat, according to police sources quoted in a PTI report. He was arrested on Sunday night after a police encounter. The victim has been identified as Reshma Khan alias Sana, the police said. The accused brought Sana from Babatpur in Varanasi to Khakharia to an accommodation in Teachers’ Colony under Madiyahu police station area. “A dispute broke out between them over a mobile phone chat. Enraged, the accused slit the woman’s throat with a knife while she was asleep," said Station House Officer Deependra Singh.
In April this year, a 19-year-old woman was found dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district on Thursday. The villagers suspected that she was murdered. Police said the body was found lying on the ground near a hut, while a cloth noose was seen hanging inside the hut in Baraon Dih village. According to NCRB data, Uttar Pradesh reported around 7.93 lakh total cases in 2023, one of the highest in absolute numbers due to its large population.
