(IMAGE: PTI) The Yogi Adityanath government has disbursed more than ₹210 crore in subsidies under its Electric Vehicle (EV) Purchase Subsidy Scheme, benefiting over 43,000 buyers as Uttar Pradesh continues to expand the adoption of electric mobility. According to the Transport Department, 43,218 beneficiaries have received financial assistance under the scheme, while more than 96,778 electric vehicles have been registered across the state so far.
The government said the subsidy programme forms part of its efforts to promote cleaner modes of transport, reduce dependence on conventional fuels and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles. Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh said the scheme assumes greater significance at a time when volatility in global oil markets has renewed focus on alternatives to petrol and diesel. He said wider adoption of electric vehicles would help reduce fuel dependence while contributing to cleaner air and lower transportation costs. Officials said more than ₹210 crore has been disbursed during the first three years of the scheme, reducing the upfront cost of purchasing electric vehicles for consumers. To improve transparency, the Transport Department has also introduced a live counter on its online portal to track registrations and subsidy applications.
According to departmental data, electric two-wheelers account for the largest share of beneficiaries under the scheme, with over 61,000 such vehicles receiving subsidies. The government attributed the higher uptake to lower acquisition costs, reduced running expenses and suitability for daily commuting. The policy also provides subsidy targets for 25,000 electric four-wheelers, 400 electric buses and 1,000 electric goods carriers, with the objective of expanding electric mobility beyond private vehicles into public transport and commercial logistics. The government said increasing EV adoption would help reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality and lower dependence on petrol and diesel while making transportation more affordable for consumers.
