A senior doctor was injured after a portion of the ceiling plaster and a ceiling fan collapsed on him while he was attending to patients at a government satellite hospital in Rajasthan's Alwar on Monday, raising fresh concerns over the condition of public healthcare infrastructure in the district. The incident occurred at the Satellite Hospital located in the Kala Kuan area of Alwar city. According to hospital officials, senior doctor Sitaram Agrawal was examining a patient in the outpatient department (OPD) when a section of the ceiling suddenly gave way. Along with the plaster, the ceiling fan also crashed onto him.

Hospital staff immediately rushed to the scene and shifted the injured doctor for treatment. After receiving initial medical care, he was referred to another hospital for further treatment. The incident triggered panic among patients and staff inside the hospital. BUILDING CONDITION ASSESSED Following the accident, Additional District Magistrate (City) Ambalal Meena visited the hospital to inspect the site and assess the condition of the building. He said the structural condition of the hospital was being evaluated and that instructions had been issued to the concerned departments to undertake necessary repairs based on the assessment.
Speaking about the incident, Dr Agrawal said he was examining a patient when he heard unusual sounds from the ceiling. Moments later, the plaster and ceiling fan collapsed on him, leaving him seriously injured. Hospital officials said the doctor suffered a deep head injury that required stitches, besides injuries to his right arm and leg. Dr Pramila Meena said the hospital building had been in a deteriorated condition for nearly 10 months and that the Public Works Department (PWD) had been informed about the issue. She added that repair work worth around 16 lakh had been sanctioned nearly four months ago, but the work had not commenced.
The incident has once again brought attention to the deteriorating condition of government hospital buildings in Alwar. Similar incidents have been reported in the past, including the collapse of ceiling plaster at the office of the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO). The latest accident has renewed demands for an immediate structural audit and timely repair of ageing government healthcare facilities to ensure the safety of doctors, hospital staff and patients.
