Workers under the banner of the YSR Trade Union staged a demonstration at the APSRTC Circle in Tirupati on Monday (July 6, 2026), protesting the alleged privatisation of the operation and maintenance of electric buses. The YSRCP’s Tirupati constituency in-charge Bhumana Abhinay Reddy, who expressed solidarity to the cause and joined the rally, called it unfortunate for the management to consider privatising the operation and maintenance of electric buses.
“We are not against the transformation to electric buses, but will not accept privatisation of any form. The RTC should manage the operation and maintenance of electric buses and not private groups,” he said. The protestors alleged that the move was an attempt to weaken the decades-old organisation.
“The APSRTC is strong and experienced enough to handle the modern operations,” they added. The workers and employees said that they would go to any
extent to safeguard the public transport system.
