BRS seeks extension of SIR deadline, delegation to meet ECI

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday urged the Election Commission to extend the July 24 deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in the State, citing low voter participation and inadequate awareness. At a review meeting of the party’s special committee at Telangana Bhavan, Mr. Rama Rao said only 7% of the forms distributed by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) had been submitted so far, making it difficult to complete the exercise within the stipulated timeline.
He flayed the Election Commission for ‘focusing on duplicate votes’ within districts while ignoring cases where individuals are enrolled in voter lists in different States. Reiterating the principle of ‘one person, one vote, one place’, he said the party had already submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Telangana, and would soon send a delegation to New Delhi to meet the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Rama Rao said BRS-appointed Booth Level Agents (BLAs) were actively monitoring the process and ensuring enrolment of all eligible voters. He added that awareness meetings
had been conducted in over 93 Assembly constituencies and would soon cover the remaining segments.
