Diljit Dosanjh's new film, 'Satluj', has been removed from the OTT platform Zee5 just forty-eight hours after its release. The film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who exposed the alleged illegal cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies during the insurgency in Punjab in the early nineties before being abducted in nineteen ninety-five.
The filmmakers released 'Satluj' directly on OTT after refusing to make over one hundred and twenty cuts demanded by the Central Board of Film Certification during a four-year legal battle. Zee5 stated they are exploring legal options and remain committed to authentic stories, though they did not provide a specific reason for the takedown. Sources suggest concerns that the film could fan anti-India sentiment in Punjab.
The removal has triggered a political storm, with the Shiromani Akali Dal, SGPC, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party questioning the decision and demanding the film's immediate restoration.
