Water levels in the Krishna basin continues to rise with heavy rain lashing parts of Maharashtra and Belagavi district on Monday. Most of the seven bridge-cum-barrages in and around Chikkodi remain submerged for the second day. Maharashtra released close to 80,000 cusecs into the Krishna basin rivers. Discharge in the Krishna river course at Rajapur barrage was 59,875 cusecs and discharge into the Dudhaganga river course at Sadalga was 17,248 cusecs.
The total discharge at Kallol barrage was 77,123 cusecs, which was 23,938 cusecs more than Sunday. Discharge is rising. Most of the water is expected to reach the Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir on the Krishna at Almatti in Bagalkot district on Tuesday. Inflow into the Almatti dam has risen to 1,239 cusecs, while outflow stood at 822 cusecs. The dam now has around 20.65 tmcft or 16.7% of the total capacity of 123 tmcft.
Due to heavy rain in Southern Maharashtra, the inflow into the Koyna dam crossed 7.74 tmcft or 89,600 cusecs. But outflow remains zero. The dam has just around 22% of live storage. The region around the dam has received around 950 mm of water. The Raja Lakhamagouda dam on the Ghataprabha in Hidkal recorded an inflow of 14,143 cusecs of water. Outflow was just 104 cusecs. The Anjaneya temple in Habbanatti of Khanapur taluk was nearly submerged with just the roof visible above water.
Following rainfall in Khanapur and surrounding areas in Belagavi district, inflow into the Renuka Sagar dam on the Malaprabha near Munavalli rose to 2,069 cusecs. The water level in the dam is only around 5.4 tmcft against a full capacity of 37.73 tmcft. Outflow was 194 cusecs.
