Speaking to JioStar, Zverev said he has settled well into the grass-court season and is pleased with the level he has produced so far at the All England Club.
“In a way, yes, I feel that I have been playing really well so far in this edition of Wimbledon. I have found my rhythm on grass, which is not always easy. I have been able to give my best in every match, and I want to keep that going." The German added that lifting his first major trophy in Paris has transformed his mindset after years of near misses. “I waited such a long time to win my first major, and that happened at the French Open. I had a lot of heartbreaks along the way, but once you do it once, you feel like you can do it again. That is the most important thing. I have belief now." Zverev said the title has reinforced his belief that he can contend for Wimbledon as well, despite the unique demands of grass-court tennis.
“That first major win at the French Open gives me immense confidence in my ability to do the same here at Wimbledon. I know grass is a different challenge, but I have been working hard to adapt my game. Every match is a new opportunity, and I want to make the most of it." Looking ahead to his Round of 16 clash, Zverev reserved special praise for Lehečka, calling the Czech his sternest opponent of the fortnight. “I have a very tough challenge ahead of me in the Round of 16 against Jiri Lehecka. He has been playing fantastic tennis so far. He serves big and takes the ball early, so I know it’s going to be a battle." “I think this is going to be the toughest test I have faced in this tournament, and I am looking forward to it.
These are the kind of matches you play for. I am ready to go out there and compete."
