The Salem Railway Division conducted a special intensive ticket-checking drive and imposed fines on 301 ticketless passengers on a single train on Sunday (July 5, 2026) night. In a release, the Salem Railway Division said a special intensive ticket-checking drive was carried out on the Coimbatore-Silchar Weekly Express (Train No. 15627) on Sunday night.
The drive was conducted while the train was en route from Coimbatore to Salem. All passengers on board were thoroughly checked. As instructed by Salem Divisional Railway Manager Panna Lal and guided by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Y. Saravanakumar, around 16 squad ticket-checking staff from the commercial department were involved in the special intensive ticket-checking drive.
More than 40 unauthorised passengers travelling in reserved compartments were deboarded and directed to general compartments. Furthermore, ticketless and unauthorised passengers were penalised as per rules. An amount of โน2.64 lakh was collected as penalty from 301 ticketless travellers and those with invalid tickets. The drive was carried out in the wake of an increasing number of complaints regarding unauthorised passengers travelling in reserved coaches and causing inconvenience to bona fide passengers with reserved tickets.
The Salem Division said it will continue to conduct such intensive ticket-checking drives to ensure that unauthorised passengers are penalised and that bona fide passengers have a comfortable journey.
