Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday (July 6, 2026) handed over ₹1 lakh each to 26 chronically ill internally displaced persons (IDPs). The beneficiaries have been living at the Lamboikhongnangkhong relief camp in the State’s capital, Imphal, since the ethnic conflict between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities erupted in May 2023.
They are suffering from kidney ailments, cancer, and other diseases. Distributing the cheques, the Chief Minister said that the financial assistance was intended to provide relief to displaced persons as they continue to suffer while being unable to return to their homes. “The special financial support is being provided to those suffering from chronic diseases,” he said, adding that the ailing IDPs would continue to get similar assistance in future.
Singh said it is unfortunate that several people are still unable to live in their own homes, the prevailing situation compelling them to stay in relief camps. Manipur’s lone Rajya Sabha member, Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, said the government would provide weaving machines and other support to women IDPs in relief camps to help them take up allied livelihood activities.
