According to available information, the iron gate fell on four students and a caretaker as they were entering the school. A Class 3 student, identified as Sunema, suffered serious injuries and has been admitted to a private hospital, where she is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).
The school has more than 220 students studying from LKG to Class 7. Gate reportedly came off its hinges The incident occurred when the caretaker was opening the school’s main entrance gate. Residents said the gate suddenly came off its hinges and collapsed on the students and the caretaker standing nearby. The injured were rushed for treatment, with Sunema reported to be in a critical condition. Authorities are yet to comment on what caused the gate to collapse. Villagers’ complaints ignored Following the incident, villagers alleged that the entrance arch and gate had been constructed around three years ago. They claimed the gate had collapsed on three earlier occasions.
According to residents, a similar incident had taken place about 15 days ago, but no one was injured at that time. Villagers further alleged that they had repeatedly urged the authorities to carry out proper repairs to the gate. However, they claimed no effective action was taken and blamed the incident on poor-quality construction. The allegations have raised questions over the maintenance and safety of infrastructure at the government school. After the incident, Block Education Officer (BEO) Jasmine visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured Class 3 student.
