Employees of the US-based CorroHealth Infotech Private Limited, who were terminated without prior notice, will be given access to the company office in Kochi until a meeting between Kerala Minister for Labour Bindhu Krishna and the key executives of the firm on July 10. The decision was taken at a meeting attended by Uma Thomas, MLA, Safna Nazarudeen, Labour Commissioner, representatives of the employees, trade unions and the legal representative of the firm in Kochi on Monday.
The employees, who had turned up at the office around 9 a.m, were denied entry as the security personnel at the co-working space informed them they had received an intimation from the company not to permit them inside. About 800 employees of the firm, providing health care analytics and technology-driven solutions to hospitals and healthcare systems, were in for a shock after they received a “separation and full and final settlement” mail when they reported for duty last Friday.
Thomas said the employees would enter the office from Tuesday onwards and they will be given access to all facilities without any hindrance as assured by the legal representative of the firm. The Labour Commissioner said the government would not initiate any action against the company till the talks to be convened by the Minister for Labour in Kochi on Friday (July 10). The employees, who waited outside the office from the morning, were later permitted to enter the space after representatives of trade unions, including the Democratic Youth Federation of India, All India Trade Union Congress, Centre for Indian Trade Unions and the Indian Trade Union Congress, raised a protest.
They urged the State government and the Centre to take immediate steps to reinstate the employees, pointing out that the termination without prior notice amounted to violation of the rights of workers.
