The incident comes as heavy rain continues to batter several parts of the state, which remains under a red alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Rescue teams have so far recovered the body of one person, while efforts are continuing to trace the remaining two family members believed to be trapped beneath the debris. Police said intense rainfall led to three landslides in the remote village, with one of them burying the family’s house. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Lonavala division) Gajanan Tompe said three landslides occurred in Patan village following heavy rainfall. “In one of the incidents, a house was buried under the debris. Three persons were inside the house when the landslide occurred in the early hours of Monday," he said. An NDRF official confirmed that one body had been recovered while rescue efforts remained underway. NDRF DEPLOYS SPECIALISED RESCUE TEAM Following the distress call, the District Information Office said immediate assistance was sought from the Disaster Response Force. A specialised 30-member team from the NDRF’s 5th Battalion, stationed in Pune, was rapidly deployed to the landslide site. According to the District Information Office, the operation is being led by Inspector Ravinder under the direct supervision of Assistant Commandant Chandraketu Sharma. The rescue unit comprises two senior officers and 27 trained disaster management personnel equipped with advanced rescue gear and disaster management tools to safely navigate the unstable terrain and remove debris.
