Mamata Banerjee (File) The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday accused the police of preventing party chief Mamata Banerjee and MP Abhishek Banerjee from visiting the family of the 12-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and murdered in Baruipur, on the outskirts of Kolkata. The party claimed that heavy police deployment, route marches and barricades were put up outside the residences of both leaders, alleging that the security arrangements were intended to stop them from travelling to the victim’s home. Derek O’Brien Shares Visuals, Questions Police Action TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien shared videos from outside the residences of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, describing them as “alarming visuals." Questioning the deployment of security personnel, O’Brien alleged that the leaders were being prevented from exercising their freedom of movement.
“Route march happening now. Confinement using force!" he posted on X. Police Arrest Two, Set Up SIT As the political row intensified, the investigation into the alleged rape and murder gathered pace. Police said two accused have been arrested, while three others are being questioned. A si member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the case. According to officials, four FIRs have been registered so far. These include cases related to the alleged rape and murder of the minor as well as the lynching of a man who was suspected by locals of being involved in the crime. Security Tightened In Baruipur With tensions running high, authorities have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in parts of Baruipur and nearby areas.
Additional police personnel have been deployed to prevent any further unrest and maintain law and order. Body Recovered From Pond After Girl Went Missing The 12-year-old girl had gone missing on Saturday. Her body was recovered from a pond the following day. Her family has alleged that she was raped and murdered. The incident triggered widespread anger, with local residents blocking roads and railway tracks on Sunday while demanding swift action against those responsible. Victim’s Father Demands Strict Punishment Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari spoke to the victim’s father over the phone and assured him that the accused would be arrested and brought to justice. The girl’s father said he had demanded the death penalty for those responsible. “He asked me to go to Bhabani Bhawan on Tuesday. I am satisfied with the administration," the father said. Police said the investigation remains underway and further action will be taken based on the findings of the Special Investigation Team.
