Four people, including a minor, have been taken into custody by the Kanjiramkulam police in connection with the murder of a youth near Neyyattinkara late Sunday. The victim, identified as Manu alias Manoj, 22, of Kannaravila, was allegedly stabbed to death by his neighbours during a dispute that began over reckless bike racing in front of his house around 9.30 p.m. The police have apprehended Manu’s neighbours Biju, alias Podiyan, his sons Ambadi and Midhun, and a minor boy in connection with the incident.
According to official sources, the incident occurred shortly after an altercation that the accused persons had with Manu nearby. While the incident was defused by local residents, the groups later clashed outside one of the accused persons’ house after they revved their bike, prompting Manu, who lived nearby to question the loud and reckless riding.
This led to a heated verbal argument that soon escalated into a physical confrontation. During the clash, Manoj sustained fatal stab injuries. Despite being rushed to the General Hospital in Neyyattinkara, his life could not be saved. One of the accused also suffered injuries and was taken to the same hospital, where another altercation reportedly broke out between the gang and Manu’s friends.
The body of the deceased has been shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
