Replacement Ready For Champat Rai? VHP Heavyweights Arrive In Ayodhya Ahead Of Crucial Ram Temple Meet Reported By, Edited By Last Updated: July 06, 2026, 12:58 IST Among the key agenda items at the Ram Temple meeting are the Trust's response to the resignations of General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra. Rapid Read The fates of Anil Mishra (left) and Champat Rai (right) may be decided on July 6. With the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust set to hold one of its most closely watched meetings on Monday, attention has shifted to Ayodhya, where several senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) functionaries have arrived amid growing speculation over who could replace Champat Rai as General Secretary amid the ongoing donation row. The meeting comes against the backdrop of the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in donations received by the Ram Temple Trust. Among the key agenda items are the Trust’s response to the resignations of General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra, a review of the interim findings of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), approval of the Trust’s financial statements for 2025-26, and discussions on strengthening the temple’s administrative framework, including the possible appointment of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
As discussions over the Trust’s future leadership intensify, three prominent VHP leaders have reached Ayodhya, with their presence triggering speculation over who may be entrusted with the powerful post of General Secretary. Bajrang Lal Bagra Among the key names is Bajrang Lal Bagra, who currently serves as the Central (International) General Secretary of the VHP. Bagra has held several important organisational positions over the years, including Joint General Secretary of the VHP and President and CEO of the Ekal Abhiyan. A Chartered Accountant by profession, Bagra has an extensive corporate background before entering full-time social work. He previously served as Director (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer at Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) and RITES Ltd., giving him both financial and organisational experience that many believe could be valuable at a time when the Trust is seeking to reinforce transparency and governance. Neeraj Dauneria Another senior functionary who has arrived in Ayodhya is Neeraj Dauneria, the Convener of the Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of the VHP.
Dauneria has played a prominent organisational role within the Sangh Parivar ecosystem and is considered one of the key faces of the Bajrang Dal’s national leadership. Venkat Koteshwar Rao Also present is Venkat Koteshwar Rao, who currently serves as the Central Joint General Secretary of the VHP. Operating from the organisation’s central office in New Delhi, Rao is regarded as one of the VHP’s senior office-bearers and has been involved in coordinating the organisation’s national activities. While there has been no official confirmation that any of the three leaders are being considered for the General Secretary’s post, their arrival ahead of the crucial meeting has fuelled speculation within Sangh circles. The Trust meeting, being held at Mani Ram Chhawni in Ayodhya, is expected to be the first since the donation controversy surfaced. Trust sources have indicated that if the resignations of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra are accepted, discussions may also begin on restructuring the Trust’s administrative setup and filling key leadership vacancies.
