Mumbai’s suburban rail network faced major disruptions on Monday as heavy rainfall triggered waterlogging and technical snags across the Western and Central lines, throwing commuter schedules into chaos. Local train services between Kanjurmarg and Bhandup on the slow line towards CSMT were halted after plastic debris got stuck on the overhead equipment (OHE). Power had to be switched off to remove the obstruction, railway officials said, adding that services would be restored shortly. Train No. 69174 (Dahanu Road–Borivali) has been short-terminated at Virar and will not run between Virar and Borivali. Train No. 69139 (Borivali–Valsad MEMU) will now originate from Virar, with the Borivali–Virar leg cancelled. The Mumbai Central–Vapi (59045) and Vapi–Mumbai Central (59040) services have been cancelled outright. Long-distance trains were also hit, with waterlogging reported at Saphale, Kelve Road, Vasai Road and Nallasopara in the Mumbai division. Services from Azamgarh, Surat, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Jaipur and Ajmer were short-terminated at Sanjan, Umargam Road, Valsad, Vapi, Surat, Udhna and Navsari, and will run in the reverse direction as per revised schedules.
