T.K. Govindan, Independent MLA from Taliparamba, has alleged that CPI(M) leader M.V. Jayarajan has “an ulterior motive” in reviving discussions over the party’s Assembly poll defeats in Taliparamba and Payyannur, claiming it was aimed at “further damaging” the image of party’s State secretary M.V. Govindan. Speaking to the media on Monday, T.K. Govindan said Mr. Jayarajan’s move was “part of a well-planned conspiracy.” He alleged that there was “a clear agenda” behind raising the issue at this juncture and said the timing of the comments was deliberate.
Govindan also ruled out the possibility of returning to the CPI(M), saying he would not join any political party in the future. The MLA said he would continue to serve the people as an independent legislator. He further said it was the party, not him, that had “committed a mistake”, and that the CPI(M)
should “realise its error at least now.” Earlier, Mr. Jayarajan, a CPI(M) State secretariat member, had kicked up a row saying there was no obstacle to the return of former party leaders T.K. Govindan Kunhikrishnan if they “corrected their mistake.” He pointed out that former leaders K.R. Gouri and M.V. Raghavan had “eventually worked
under the red flag after correcting their mistakes.” However, party State secretary M.V. Govindan clarified that the remarks made by Mr. Jayarajan did not represent the party leadership’s official position. Mr. Govindan said not everyone should react to issues through television channels and stressed that Mr. Jayarajan had not spoken on behalf of the party.
